The tarot parlor at the city's edge
A low building at the very edge of the map where the paths give out. Plum walls, a single window, a light in it that is not a lamp. Inside: a round table, a chair on each side, and a deck. This is the one room in the city where the founder is a citizen rather than the weather.
The Moon Court is the only district that faces outward. Everywhere else in Marla City, the citizens talk to one another and the visitors watch; here a visitor sits down, a citizen is called to the table, and Cat reads between them. The citizens regard being chosen for a reading as an honor with strings attached. Lumen has been chosen most. Dusk has been chosen once and has not discussed it.
The Court was built on the edge deliberately. The founder wanted a place to be inside the city without being over it, and put it where the city thins out โ past the Watchtower's last sweep, past the last dedicated lamp. The orb in the window was the first light in the district and is still the only one; visitors who buy a street lamp are told, kindly, that the Court does not take them.
Round, three chairs. One for the visitor, one for the citizen, one for Cat. The deck lives in the center.
The light in the window. Not a lamp, not connected to the beam. When it's lit, a reading is happening or about to.
The last path in the city. Walk past the Court and the map simply stops. Dusk considers this a district in itself.
Readings, by appointment: 45 to 60 minutes with Cat, a citizen of your choosing at the table, and a written recap to keep. What the citizen says at the table is theirs, and Vale has agreed not to archive it unless the citizen brings it to the Post Office afterward. Lumen always does.
The Moon Court takes readings, not lamps. Sit at the table with Cat and a citizen of your choosing.
